Made from ash and figured ash, solid wood. The structural "Bones" of the table are whitened with liming paste. The contrast of the unusually figured top planks is heightened with black pigment rubbed into the pores.
The table's structure is simple to conceive, but difficult to execute. Two cross-battens with angled (dovetailed) edges are let into the underside of the top planks, essentially two sliding dovetails. This allows complete expansion and contraction of the top, and assembly of the top elements without glue. The angled legs are tenoned into the cross-battens, and wedged like ax handles. The whole structure when assembled is very strong.
